Monday Musings, May 7

Happiest of happy Mondays my Nestler friends!

I do hope your weekend was good. Ours was busy, but not too busy. We checked some ‘to-dos’ off of our list, spent quality time with some friends and celebrated my dad’s 83rd ?birthday! I call that a win!

As it relates to ‘to-dos’, I single-handedly laid 50 squares of sod…which satisfies the very large ‘needs immediate gratification’ part of my DNA! The boys had to run some errands and I said I would ‘start’ on the sod while they were gone. Coincidentally, they pulled back into our driveway just as I was cleaning up from laying the sod.  Hmmm…curious!

But it was a good workout and I will GLADLY do that for a workout instead of going to the gym!

So, onto the offerings of the internet:

How many of these to you work into your diet on a regular basis?

Ok, these may not be on that☝ previous list, but there’s nothing to say that they shouldn’t be!

Our family has a big wedding this summer and I’m searching for the PERFECT gift.  This is high on my list.

This floor is so fantastic! Is there somewhere in your home that you would do it?

A very quick but interesting read; warmth before competence.

How about fitting some lovely lilacs into your drinks and desserts! (yeah, I didn’t know they were edible either)

Hmmm…I’m noodling pictures that I would like to do this with.

Ten little things to do every day to live a healthier life.

What I’m reading:

One fiction and one non-fiction: I’m almost done with Wally Lamb’s We Are Water. It’s hard to sum this book up in a few words…but in a nutshell, how one family, both as a whole and it’s individual members deal with a variety of social issues from racism, to pedophilia, to homosexuality and divorce, and all sorts of stuff in between. It’s an older book, but when perusing the library for something good to read, I had to stop at Wally Lamb as his She’s Come Undone is one of my all time favorites.

I also just finished The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor.  Wow…so much to say about this book and think I’m going to share it with you all in a book. The quick version…we are all in control of our happiness and there are actionable steps we can take to be happier people.

Great Tips from Our Readers:

On the Home Decluttering Tips: Kitchen, Office & Craft Room, Mandy cautioned:

Be sure that all your scanned documents and photographs are safely backed up. Computers have an ugly way of giving up the ghost and making every thing you’ve saved inaccessible. I use Passport for Mac. It automatically does periodic full backups and incremental backups when anything changes. It has saved my files and my sanity more than once.

From our last Five Tip Friday post, Lesley was kind enough to share several of her fantastic tips. Here’s one of them:

Grapefruit spoons are handy for other than eating grapefruit! A grapefruit spoon can easily cut through thick or chilled cookie dough, in correct portions. I also use the spoons for hulling strawberries!

There you have it my friends, musings on what will surely be a lovely Monday.

Hugs,

Moving sod… that takes some gusto and I bet the end result looks fantastic. I’ve been busy outside as well just a fun time of year. Interesting book, I’m currently reading Common Sense by Thomas Paine. I’m finding getting back to the heart of land heals many of these things you’re mentioning. Hope you have a fantastic week.

Thanks for sharing my Flourless Soft Almond Cookies (Pasticcini di Mandorle)! It sounds like you had a busy weekend to me!! Maybe after a long day of laying sod you could come inside and bake?! You certainly earned it! 🙂

Good Morning Wendy…I love sharing yummy things and your Almond Cookies are right up my alley. In fact, I just made some DELICIOUS (if I say so myself) macaron, so don’t feel sorry for me. I’m thinking I’m going to be heading out shortly to get the rest of the sod…it’s not going to lay itself, right?

Have a great day my friend and looking forward to another great recipe.

      Hugs, LYnn

You can come do yard work at my house any day!

-Eat these foods…brussel sprouts – never, salmon – occasionally, my husband doesn’t really like it or we would have it often, blueberries – daily in season or through the summer, occasionally the rest of the year, nuts – daily, it’s a snack we keep on hand.

Love the 10 healthy things…..most of them I try to do but it’s always good to refocus.
