Week 5 ORC Update: Hello Coral!

Well, Hello Coral! Where have you been all my life? I get that you’re related to Orange, and Orange and I don’t really get along..but you Coral, you’re entirely different.

You’ve got just enough pink in you to make you bold instead of brash, inviting instead of ‘in your face’. You don’t invade my personal space like Orange tends to.  Truth be told, you are just flat out luscious.

And you are just that needed oomph to my otherwise neutral office. You’re that one person at the party who makes the party a success…without you it’d be a little drab…a little boring.

So yeah, I have a little crush on you…but it’s not an Orange Crush…let’s just be clear about that.

I painted this little chest that I stole from my son’s room (Or…as I explained it to him, it’s not really stealing if I bought it in the first place. I’ve just let him borrow it for the past 16 years and he should be thankful!) in your loveliness (also known as Benjamin Moore Habanero Pepper) and I have been giddy with excitement ever since.

And then, as if it couldn’t get any better…you brought an equally enchanting sidekick to the party!

Your ‘mini-me’ on the opposite end of the room could not be any more perfect if he tried. He’s the perfect size, the perfect color and perfectly useful too!

And just wait until that Framed Print from Minted arrives. What up until now has been a really lovely party will turn in to the hippest party in town. We’ll be swinging from the chandeliers! (Well, we would be if there were chandeliers in here.)

So, back to the nitty-gritty…this chest is laminate and before I painted it I primed it with HomeRight Finish Max

If you ever need to paint laminate furniture, I highly recommend this stuff.  It provides the ‘tooth’ that paints need to adhere properly. It really works, but it does have a VERY strong chemical odor. Definitely use it outside or in a well-ventilated area.

I also used my HomeRight Finish Max…if you paint furniture (or doors and walls for that matter) this is a must-have tool.

After years of leaving brush stroke no matter how hard I tried not to, this tool is a dream come true.

So, if you’re just tuning in and wondering why I’ve dedicated this post to the color coral…let me fill you in. This is the 5th installment of the 6-week One Room Challenge, the twice a year event that has 200 bloggers making over rooms at a breakneck pace. You can view Week 1, Week 2, Week 3 and Week 4 to see where I’ve come from and where I hope to be going.

So, what’s left to do?

  • Reupholster club chair
  • Paint Walls
  • Stencil Walls
  • Prime and paint chest
  • Make a pillow for chair
  • Make ottoman out of that gorgeous, to die for, coral fabric.
  • Paint trim (this may or may not happen. It needs to be done but …we’ll see)
  • Find lamps
  • Make skirt for counter (I’ve got almost all the ‘parts’…which was half the battle)
  • Find or make and frame artwork (it’s on its way…Thanks Minted!)
  • Find a rug Ordered
  • Figure out what to do with bulletin boards. I’ve figured it out, now I just need to do it.
  • Recover bulletin boards.

So, we’re clicking right along. As it often happens, I could really use a couple of extra days, but since that’s not gonna happen, I’ll just really bust it over the next week.

Well, except for the 4 days I’ll be gone as I head back to my alma mater with 3 of my college girlfriends to do the whole college football weekend thing…and I am so very excited!

Before you leave today, make sure you head over to One Room Challenge to see what all the other bloggers are up to. It is a wealth of ideas and inspiration and I know you’ll find many swoon-worthy rooms.
