Merry Christmas My Friends

Happy Friday and Merry Christmas My Friends

Starting tomorrow I will be taking 2 weeks of vacation to soak up both the season and my family. Kate comes home on Saturday and we have many plans for the next couple of weeks.

But before I head out, I wanted to wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah and Happy whatever ever else you celebrate this time of year.

As you are reading this is Cinncinati or Iowa, someone else may be reading it, at the same exact time, in Israel or South Africa. And that’s a really cool thing about this blog world…the inter-connectedness of us all.

In the words of some of my favorite little mechanical people, ‘it’s a small world after all’ and our digital devices have made it even smaller. So, I send all my friends from around the globe special greetings this time of year.

As much as I cherish this season for the religious significance it holds for me, I also treasure it for the time we set aside to just be with those we love, to relish in our traditions, to reflect on our blessings and to welcome in a new year…oh, and let’s not forget…to consume all sorts of home-baked goodies with abandon. So, my wish for you is to soak in whatever this time of year makes special to you and your family.

And in my book, you know it’s a special holiday when you set the dining room table.

Twice a year…Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner.

I found these Spode St. Nick plates at a fundraiser last year and knew they were mine the minute I laid eyes on them. And because kismet is my pal, they pair perfectly with my white Juliska plates. If it’s possible to have a crush on tableware, then I have a major crush on Juliska. Go ahead and say it…very silly and shallow. But a girl has got to have a few weaknesses.

My mom and dad started collecting the white and green plates for me several years ago. It’s a little on the pricey side for tableware, but it is so pretty and so very functional…from freezer to oven! And, in a home with a 17-year old son, it’s durability is key.

You have to work really hard to chip them.

And those mercury glass…things.  Finials? Would I crush your world if I told you they were…plastic! But it’s our little secret…don’t tell anyone.

We will eat brunch in the kitchen, but we will have our Christmas dinner in this dining room. Mom will cook her prime rib and I will make pop overs. Of course, we’ll also have apple pie for dessert.

Simple red velvet ribbon, just about perfect to tie up my napkins with my Grandma’s silverware on Grandma’s dining room table.

This Christmas elephant stays out year-round

My son has always LOVED elephants. He bought this elephant Christmas decoration for me several years ago. I actually love it so much that I leave it out year round.

And candlelight just really changes everything, doesn’t it?

May your days be filled with family, friends and joy.

I’ll be back at the beginning of the year, in a declutter frame of mind. As much as I love all my Christmas decorations, I’ll be ready to take them all down and pack them all up once Christmas passes. And like many of you, I’ll also be ready to do a little decluttering.

Some of my friends and I will be bringing you ideas as we declutter several rooms in our homes and would love for you join us. And, to keep you motivated, you will have an opportunity to win some great gift certificates…details to follow.
